August Cruise 2008

After days of high winds we finally made it out of Harwich harbour and started a race to the River Deben . Note the start boat on the right and the fact that we are in front of a lot of other boats for a change - and we stayed in front!

Kestrel - an immaculate and very fast classic yacht.

We had to wait for a freighter to pass before turning north-east for the Deben Haven buoy. The bawley Bona starts her run.

Then Reverie and Tab Nab pass through the rough water behind the freighter.

Rounding Collimer buoy in the Orwell at the start of the Presidents's Race. It was too rough to go out to sea and we had heavy rain squalls.

The wind dropped for an hour or two in our way back from the Deben. This is us on Ro an Mor dwarfed by a super-freighter entering felixstowe docks. The Grete Mearsk loads about 25 rows of about 100 containers - 2500 continers of stuff for us all to consume.

Godwits have arrived from the north - still in summer plumage.
